The Chennai version of Casa Piccola started with a bang.. the ambience was great, and the food was simply superb.. but then.. it went the way of all flesh!
The last time I visited, with family and friends, we ordered: Seafood Salad, which promised a bunch of exotic seafoods: we got: 2 bits of vanjaram, a couple of prawns and some rubbery calamari in a tasteless sauce. Pasta salad: the less said the better. Chicken Verner Schnitzel (it took time for the waiter to grasp that this was actually on the menu).. just about OK. And some other totally forgettable dish. Then we asked for dessert: prophiter rolls. After some 20 interminable minutes, when we asked the waiter what happened to the dessert, he said 'he has gone to get it'.. whoa!! Who has gone to get it from where?? Anyway it eventually arrived, and it was the poorest version of the normally delectable prophiter rolls that one has had the misfortune to experience. Then and there we, long-time fans of Casa Piccola, decided that enough was enough.
Is this only a phenomenon restricted to Chennai? Why is it that so many dozens of promising eateries start with a bang and end with a whimper? Do they need psychological counselling or what!
