With more and more "speciality" restaurants opening all over the city, one has to assume that the food is "authentic" because there is no other benchmark for the same food, unless there are other restaurants of the same genre in the city. With Don Pepe's Mexican fiesta establishment, one has to hope that this is authentic.
The experience is though FAR from it. The waiters seriosly need an attitude change, and the place is so cramped that there was JUST enough space to squeeze out of the table without disturbing the neighbors meal. It reminded me of the scene from "Valentines day" where they are sitting in the restaurant with so many folks also squeezed in.
The chicken was nice and well done, thats all i can say about the food. If the flavours were anything to go by, my food tasted like a spring roll in a LOT of oil. I am sure, then Mexicans never deep fried any of their food.
My biggest disappointment was my glass was empty for quite a while. Which for me personally is the biggest indicator of the service level at the restaurant. If the waiters/ managers are observant, then they will notice who's glass is empty and who's is full, irrespective of the crowd.
however, the WORST thing was the that the guy came and kept my order in front of me, and did not tell me that the dish is hot. when i mean hot it was SCALDING hot! i burnt my finger that i had to keep ice on it through the meal- and they were not even BOTHERED! which is REALLY pissing off!
I would NEVER go back there again.. and would NEVER recommend it to anyone either. If my wife REALLY wants mexican food, I would order, but never go there again. I do wish they do something.
