For those who love large beefy portions of food, Galloping Gooseberries, an American-Italian fast food joint on Greams road is a must visit place. With a menu that runs into a few pages and a place that offers an assortment of burgers and sandwiches, Galloping Gooseberries has every ingredient of a fast food joint.
I am a regular at this place so are many die hard foodies. Everything from the bright walls to comfortable seating, and to the jute blinds that adorn the huge French windows reads clean and utilitarian. A few interesting pictures from Hollywood yester years have found its place on the walls. So you would find a scrawny teenage Dicaprio or Bonjovi with his wild hairdo embellishing the photo frame.
The warm ambiance only lends to the entire experience. I almost always have to start of my meal there with the creamy potato cheese soup something, you don’t often chance upon on other menus. The Billy Bunter their jumbo beef burger is by far their super seller. The burger is an incredible combination of beef patty, omelette, cheese, tomatoes onions, lettuce, oozing with mayo and mustard and served in the typical American fashion with chips and coleslaw a complete meal in itself. Their tie up with Fruit Shop allows customer to choose from a stirring list of mocktails to complement their food.
Although the place also claims to serve Italian food I wouldn’t particularly recommend any of the Italian cuisine Galloping dishes out. You don’t want to go to a predominantly burger and sandwich place and try their pasta or bake!
Their service isn’t particularly brilliant either the bearers take forever with your food. And this doesn’t fit too well with someone who is famished and has particularly come for the American size portion of food.
At Galloping Gooseberries one would never be disappointed with the choice of food for they have something to suite almost all kinds of taste pallet. Let me warn you each sandwich or burger is a meal in itself and it barely allows any room for dessert!
Galloping Gooseberries has 2 branches one on Greams Road and the other on ECR road, Thiruvanmayur
The place is open from 11 am – 11 pm on weekdays and till midnight on Sundays.
