I was visiting Chennai from Delhi and stayed at a guest house behind the Taj Coromandel Hotel. Since we did Mainland China, located in the same building the night before we decided to try the Tandoor. This was Friday 15 Jan 10. Wish we didn't.
From the entry itself the place looked right out of a museum in Rajasthan. The four of us stood at the entrance and there was no one to receive us leave alone look at us when we entered. Obviously we all wondered if this was The Tandoor. We then caught a flying waiter who was in a hurry to get somewhere which I later found out was the kitchen. The place was huge but only 2 tables was occupied.
We asked if he could provide us a table for 4. He swung his right hand around and said pick any. With apprehension on our minds we occupied a place near the buffet table. The price per plate minus tax was Rs.400/- which was mentioned at the lobby. The food on the buffet table looked cold and uncared for. With much repulsion we decided to go ALA carte.
While we waited for a waiter or manager to take our order since no one came we looked around. The place was indeed big and had seating arrangements for around 150 or more people at a guess. The decor was good but seen much better days.
The waiter finally came and we ordered drinks which took ages to arrive. The dinner was took even a longer time. In the end the experience left us high and dry.
I am unlucky to ever visit this place leave alone recommend it to a friend.
