Decided to take my girlfriend for Valentine’s Day to a fancy place. A friend suggested Burgundy’s next to Chettinad Vidyasharam School. As we walked in we noticed the rich interiors of the Somerset building, with it’s plush lobby and were guided to Burgundy’s -inside which was equally trendy and awesome. I had reserved a table through telephone and was assured a quite private table that will make the day even more special! True to their words, we were a given a corner table outside the restaurant facing the lawns with dancing fountains amidst shimmering lights. The little candles on the table made the setting even more romantic. My girlfriend was super impressed. Now coming to the food. We opted for the buffet as the spread was inviting and had various cuisine options – Italian, Greek, Continental, Indian…you name it. We started our meal with a chicken and potato soup. It was subtle and delicious, and not scalding hot. Just warm enough to enjoy all the flavors. We decided to start off with some Indian starters. Chicken Malai Tikka and Paneer Tikka were the options for the day. They almost melted in our mouths and we just couldn’t stop munching on them. We had also ordered some wine that complimented the meal very well. We decided to go help ourselves to some salads once we were through with these starters. I love salads so I was in heaven when I saw the spread in front of me. I loved the shrimp in garlic dressing and all the dips that were available from the Greek hummus to the Baba ganoush! The creamy chicken pasta salad was also quite a hit with my tummy! The main course was a sure hit with all the classics. Soft Naans, cashew pulav, the best mutton rogangosh were the Indian compliments! The Vietnam braised fish was distinct and has a unique taste! It was a taste explosion. This was further complimented with stir fried beef which was nothing but appetizing. What I would like to mention is the bacon quiche, it just melted in our mouth that we wanted to have one more. The dessert spread was ok, nothing great. I’m a person who enjoys plain chocolate or vanilla. But there was nothing that was palatable to my taste. My girlfriend on the other hand enjoyed the Banana cake, Mango mousse and the Sacher Tart. Honestly I was too full to try anything else. But overall me and my girl enjoyed most of it and it was definitely worth it! The average cost for two over a dinner buffet is around 2K plus. Totally worth it!!!
