not too good, not too bad... 2009-09-12
I walked into Kayal expecting cheap keralite food, ambience wasnt my priority.
I knew I had entered a 'cheap' restaurant when I could tell what food they served just by the smell...the place smelt like sea food & no..though I like fish on my plate, I don't like it in the air.
We ordered for:
Beef fry thali (which my friend really liked. Portions are pretty small though. I liked the jaggery payasam they served)
Parotta (very filling!)
Chicken peralan (very ordinary)

Kayal seriously avoid it my firends... i had this Kappa biryani... from kayall....
you won't believe me they served cold kappa... with a every hard meat..... and the quantity when compared to the price they charge for a kappa biryani....is horrible...
i actually wanted to spit out the food............

the worst mallu restaurant in chennai 2009-05-19
I use to go to Kayal regularly for the past two years since that was the only mallu restaurant near to my house. Three times i had bitter experience with the food there. they served me minimum 3 days old beef twice. when i complained, they took it back. Once i got rotten egg. Now they have increased the prices also. Now they are charging 85 Rs for a meal and the quality has come down. Last week i had the worst experience. couple of my friends came to my home I took a parcel. both the beef and chicken were minimum 1 week old. The inner parts of the chicken was cold and the outer part was warm.... read more -

The Best in Chennai 2008-06-07
Kayal is the best Mallu joint in Chennai.
I remember dining there when they opened , way back in 1999 or 2000...dont remember exactly.
It remains the same ..even better.
They serve authentic mallu stuff like "Mathi Fry" "Kallumakkaya" "Pathiri" and all that stuff
