What’s the dig this weekend?? Well this time it was one of those places where my feet had trodden on many-a-times; a place well away from the hustle and bustle of Chennai streets, West Park . When I first visited the place, it was like oh man! I’m in love - love at first sight I must add. The lush green lawn, the roof garden which has a serene and soulful feel to it accentuated by the breeze, the semi secluded seats under a roof of red tiles with shades around; all made me go gaga over the place. Nothing like a pleasant drive on the ECR and then a perfect dinner - complete bliss.
Yesterday I set foot on this evening paradise (if I can say so) - just me and my friend. The place was just as appealing as the first time with no marked change except for an LCD screen at the lawn to make the place more interesting (good thought especially during the IPL season). We opted for one of those seatings under the canopy of tiles and greedily laid our hands on the menu book. As we were browsing through the pages, my mind was anchored on thoughts of the yummy fish curry and fry I had tasted last time. Unfortunately, the waiter gives a big shake of his head and says no fish and no continental food. Damn luck.
Finally, with a lot of NOs from him, we settled on kheema biryani (Rs. 95 each, kheema is nothing but shredded lamb) and egg curry (Rs. 80). And then just to have that complete feeling, we ordered for a shake each. Now there was the regular vanilla, chocolate and so on, but my sudden craving for mangoes made me go for mango milk shake (Rs. 65). All set, we started our munching. But lo! It was the biggest disappointment. The biryani was way too sweet and oily. The egg curry was no better either, bland to the core. And yes, the milk shake was awful with the taste and smell of raw milk. I abandoned the food after a few mouthfuls. However, only biryani has this sad state. Westpark serves awesome tastes of Chinese, Tandoor and Continental and I think they should stick to making what they do best. Luckily no AC charges this time J.
Coming to ambiance, it’s just excellent and even the price of food is nominal ranging between 350-400 for two. Hope this post saves the folks out here from the ordeal of eating biryani at Westpark. But foodies, don’t forget to check on the kebabs and the yummy chutney they offer here. Inspite of these pitfalls, Westpark is definitely worth a try.
And yes, while returning I parked at Vanshika, a new shop on ECR Road (opp to Jai Bajaj Showroom). Trust me, this place is just the right place for fine kurtas, salwars and sarees! Sadly, there is no swiping machine at the shop, so make sure you have hard cash on you before making a move in!
