Northern what?

I walked in here thinking its the same old Aiwo that was closed for sometime now, since i decided to have some 'GOOD' food. But what a heartbreak, the newly reopened Aiwo is called Northern Spicy and seems like just another North Indian restaurant. Firstly, the publicity is very bad! Most or should i say everyone who knows that Aiwo exists will come only to have a low-cal meal. The reason the manager gave was that nobody turns up to a health-restaurant! I wouldnt agree on that, Sanjeevanam in the same Nungambakkam is packed for lunch! Just cause you are careless about your promos, cant blame the customers who dont seem to turn up now either! They should definitely make it a point to let people know that this restaurant is nomore a place for the health conscious.

They serve North West cuisine which seems interesting in itself (Cant they see their USP?). The place is expensive and its better to go for the lunch combo, its a good bargain. The tandoori platter comes with starters, bread, dal, and juice. We have a choice on the bread and juice but not many options. So i went for a basic lemon juice and roti. The food is typically made north western style, hats off to that. The starters were simla mirch, paneer tikka and aloo 'whatever'. All were bland including the 'mirch'! But had a good flavor to it. 'Spicy' is a word used for 'hot' commonly but i guess they mean 'filled with spices' here, so dont get fooled by the name. The roti had no oil and was dryer than our summer. The dal makhani was ok. Since i asked for rice (which was not part of the meal), the owner offered me a cup of jeera pulao on the house (now thats not gonna give you 5 stars). They have kulfi, rasamalai, gulab jamun etc for dessert though i couldnt try them.

The ambiance is very good, dignified. The waiters, dressed according to the cuisine they serve (pakisthanish?) literally hang around your seat waiting for you to finish your last bite so they can serve again! uff! You almost wnana shoo them away. I was asked how the food was, say some 7 times by the the manager and some 4 times by the waiter. Customer service alright, but this is torture. Moreover, they want us to fill the comments form in the end, i had to run off before he could bring it! If too much of anything is bad, then the service here is definitely bad.
