Pleasant evening

We visited Mystique Masala last evening. The ambience was ok, the host and hostesses were unsmiling but not rude. They can be more friendly. They were more friendly with a white couple than to us Indians. The food was ok, not great. I had phulka and dal makhani, both were good, my husband had chicken biriyani and cauliflower curry. He said the biriyani was good, but the cauliflower was quite bad. The decor was quite good. However an average restaurant only.

Nice ambience

They got a new definition for food here, the waiters are neatly dressed, well trained, but the food needs a little spice.
Overall is a great place yet chilli powder missing in the chef's kitchen ;)

Nice food, Dal Makhani rocks !!

I went to his place last week. As the other review says, it was advertised quite a lot with hoardings and ads in newspapers.

The atmosphere and ambiance is nice. The crowd consisted of people well heeled.

Starters i ordered kebabs, it was quite nice with 2-3 types of chutneys to go with. Then they also brought one complementary chat item. I am forgetting the name. Even this was quite good.

For main course, we order Tawa Subzi and Dal Makhni. For breads we orderd 2-3 diff types of naan and kulchas.

Tawa Subzi tasted good though nothing great. Dal Makhani was mind blowing, probably the best Dal Makhani i ever had or may be close to the one i had in Sigree.

Breads were nice and soft, not undercooked, nor overcooked.

The biggest let down for me was the choice of desserts. For a person like me, any meal is incomplete without a taste of dessert. The dessert menu was not attractive at all. So just for sake of trying one i had Bonafee Tart. Presentation was nice but the taste was nothing great at all.

Overall, its a nice place, reasonably priced, presentation of everything is innovative and different. Though the dessert menu could have been better.

Must try once and even can be repeated. And dont forget to have the Dal Makhani. Its yummy !!! (thinking of it makes me hungry)

Now where is the art?

They have publicised all over the city with large hoardings which attract your attention immediately, esp if you are foodie! It says 'Food is an art' or something like that. Now when you create such a hype that you are going to serve artistically innovated food, you should strive too too hard to keep up to it.

Atmosphere, well i did not expect this place to be in the basement of a creepy building. But the the ambiance is typical fine dining and makes one comfortable to get ready to indulge. The waitresses (note the gender) were good not very intruding. The place was empty though. The starters were chaat surprise and kozhakatta. Well there was nothing surprising about the chaat and the kozhatta was a disaster. Noone of us could differenciate it from the chutney both were equally pasty and was so stubborn that it didnt want to get down our throat. So i had to gulp down some thing to push it in. Now the drink (tomato cucumber with pepper i guess) was ok but could ve been presented well. They served some chenna chaat on the house and repeated the kozhakatta on the house after the complaint reached the manager, that is when we almost finished main course.

The main course was typical, the ajmain naan was nothin but butter naan without the butter. The bread were usual rotis, biriyani was like biriyani only. The raitha was a little funny yellow color and was sweet. Now for dessert the innovative art was the chocolate samosa, since we already knew that this place is just another indian restaurant we didnt bother. The kulfi we ordered was not bad but nobody really showed any interest to finish it. (Now desserts are supposed to make you drool!)

So overall its a nice place, yummy food and good service if you do not expect too much and go. Dont get over excited by the promos, that is the only drawback.
