When I first entered the Mocha here, I was a bit astounded, it was clean! Yes, I can hear the harrumphs and the throats of other Chennai burrpers clearing and the brick bats being readied, but compared to the Bandra Mocha (ever been there around 9 PM on saturday), this place is clean.
Yes, it has the usual problems that all Mochas (with the exception of the Koramangala one) have and that is the worst service in the history of cafes in India. It also seems to have fallen into a stage of deterioration (as pointed out in sansmerci's review), but it still is better compared to Amethyst as far as I am concerned.
The food is still my favourite in Chennai and my staples here include their Chai Latte and the Ferrero-Rocher Shake for drinks, their maggi noodles with cheese and cream and the mediterranean panino for bites and their chocolate avalanche is the ultimate dessert I have tasted anywhere - ever.
And did I mention that I love their music - but they are getting rather loud these days :(

Mocha opened up with a high profile, you wouldnt find a place to sit on weekends. Even today it is a fav of the teens, if you wanna c some school kids and listen to some teen pop.. u can hang out here.. but otherwise the service has broght the place down .. nah really really down!
Mocha has literally started stinking now. There are mosquitoes everywhere and the chairs and deewans are rusted and ugly. The waiters dont even smile at you and wouldnt pay you any attention even if you get up and dance on the table. The hookahs give you nothin but a headache. The 'maggi' noodles is the funniest part of the menu priced at 110/120 bucks, no its still not broght to u in 2 mins. The panini has no stuffing, we used to get better ones at java green. The spanish omelete made an egg-lover like me hate eggs. The drinks are the only thing you can go there for. You will definitely know what frustration is when you get the check!

They might have wanted the place to look like something out of Arabian Nights, but sadly to me it looked like a bordello and a really really cheap one at that.
KKrish was right... the service is appalling... we waited there for half an hour for someone to take our order... finally had to go to the kitchens to place our order.
The Chocolate Avalanche we ordered was good, but the spoons which came along with it literally STANK! We thought for a while and figured it smelt of stale milk.
The food's reputed to be good, but we saw bugs crawling inside the place. That plus the awesome lack of service is enough to put me off the place.
The two stars is just for the Chocolate Avalanche. Nothing else counts

A lot can happen over a cup of coffee in mocha, right from funky fashion to finger licking food & good coffee to chumma conversation, all welcomes you. Very Bohemian in spirit, it is a killer joint for the Yo! Youth. A place to kick off your shoes & just chill out.
The crowd here is mostly college goers making the big noise, using F- language among friends. The place is packed and loud, perfect for party freaks and a big NO for the geeks or the peace seekers. The interiors are done with wild wallpapers, lovely lanterns and kitschy cushions; it’s got a mélange of death rock & vintage feel to it. The exterior is more animated with great places to sit like bean bags, bed, chairs, sofas & stone seats. You also have a 25’ plasma TV at the dead end and a lotus pool in the center. What makes it more interesting is the attitude of genX. Smoke filling the air & loud music played, the conversation kicks off with big bang non stop.
Amit Nanavati & Samir Nanavati are the franchisee for the cool Chennai Mocha.
They serve you an array of fascinating, yet astoundingly simple food and no doubt the coffees are great with 19 varieties of coffee beans, imported from Jamaica, Guatemala, Hawaii & Kenya. Coolers and brownie was simply lips smacking and the Srilankan omelet & the Chocolate avalanche are the two things you got to try out here. Nut with noodles are good to eat when you are damn hungry and dead. Hookah is always a hip thing for teens & there is hookah with tobacco and non tobacco stuff but dude you need some ID for age verification. The evening is ebullient with people air kissing, kicking & thickening the air with fragrant smoke from fruit sheesha. It also has a cool shop outside where you can buy trendy glares & funky accessories. The price is upscale but is worth the fun.
The service is slow and you need to yell often to call the waiters yet youth do not mind. Mocha at times get too flooded with folks and you feel like grown up kids fighting in the park to play the ride (seats). Nonetheless if you don’t mind shedding few bucks and noisy places are cool for you. Drive into Khaddar Nawaz Khan Road. Mocha welcomes you.
