Annapurna serves excellent Bengali food for all those Bengalis who reach Chennai either for a "South India Tour" or for a "Medical Treatment".
This place serves pure Bengali food, starting from the regular core like Daal Bhaat to delicacies like Kosha Mangso or Bhetki Paturi.
I went there driving 22 KM one way, for this drooling menu, had my lunch and got packed some Bhetki Paturi for the evening meal.
But unfortunately, I landed up with acute stomach upset, and had to throw away all the Bhetki Paturi.
I believe, as this place believe on volume and keep the price low, they don't maintain a good hygiene at their kitchen.

Annapurna packs take-aways for you given sufficient lead-time, you may always call them up at 98402-67830.. No they DO NOT pay me (yet) to write glowing reviews.. I really think the owner-couple is doing a great job cranking out the great food week after week.. tho you got to be a bit patient before the waiting staff reaches your table and awaits your pleasure.. dont forget to order kaa-shon-di with the fish cutlets and chicken cutlets (on offer after sundown).. In addition you can have decent, piping-hot tadka daal / egg-tadka to wolf down with the rotis (after sundown).. but Annapurna is meant to be a family joint so it does not yet have a liquor license.. stay cold sober.. and ROCK DER JOINT...

I am amazed not one soul has bothered to post a review on Annapurna (next to Police Commissioner's Office in Egmore, Chennai).. Try Annapurna if you dig Bengali food.. the fare is simple - as good as home-made .. the fish curry and fish cutlets and chicken cutlets and kobiraji cutlets and kosha mangsho and biryani - are ALWAYS a treat to the senses.. my week-ends are not quite complete without Annapurna.. but stay away if you queasy about spicy cooking.. Quite literally, droves of Bengalis (plus assorted characters) descend on this non-descript eating joint during week-ends - the shop remains closed Sunday nights ONLY.. The pricing is very reasonable (I can stuff myself silly for 150 bucks only).. and the quality of the fare never differs.. Best, they serve roti during the evening meals - always a welcome break from rice, you see.. I could go on and on... This stand-alone eatery is a godsend to bongs in Chennai.. The lone aircon machine strains under the load during summer but you have loads of non-jazzy flavour in your food to make up for it.. ENJOY
