Fisrt Floor, Market No.2, CR Park, Delhi

Good

If you crave for bengali food, this is the place

For the last one month eating out everyday in Delhi made me desperate to look for Bengali Food.

I called up my living "Lonely Planet" guide in Delhi, Shrijan. He asked me do I need "commercialized Bengali food" or home made Bengali food? As I said I need the later one, he suggested me this place, Maa Tara at CR Park.

Coming from CP, I took an auto and came straight to CR Park Market no.2. From the road itself you can see the Maa Tara Hotel on the first floor. Once I am there, I could see, it's a small place, about 80sqft room, small tables, about 12 people can seat, the Manager with his cash counter is on the corridor, the kitchen is at the corner of the corridor.

The look is not at all resounding, but what is reassuring is the menu card...let me put that for you:
Rohu Curry Rs.35/60
Doi Mach Rs.40/70
Kehu Kalia Rs. 40/70
Chingri Malai Curry..Rs.100/200
Pabdar Jhal Rs 80/150
Illish Rs.80/150
Doi Illish Rs.80/150.......Tengra, Chitol, Lau Chingri, Moocha Chingri, Moori Ghanto....Oh Boy!! I am drooling!
Then you have Mutton Kasha, Chicken Kasha...Vegi things are also mouth watering.....Aloo Posto, Posto Bada, Posto Bata, Mochar Ghanto, Dhokar Dalna....

I had to wait for sometime. because the place was full, but the wait was worth of it....I had my rice with Sukto,Daal, Aaloo ucchey bhaja (that is the thali)+ Alloo Posto and the Illish Sorse Jhaal and finally a misti doi....enough for me....I think I can continue on dhaba food for another week before I come back again at Maa Tara next Sunday.

11-D, Connaught Place, Delhi

Good

One of the best Continental joint in CP

Their Tag line is "Adding spice to your life for more than five decades (Estd. 1948)"

Sixty years in business and that is in Restaurant....unless you serve great food, you are not there!!

Embassy is one of those places who is serving excellent food and enjoying a steady clientele from respectable Delhites.

The Decor is not as that great as UCH, but gives you some old world charm. Not as crowded as well.

You get decent space and privacy, and then enjoy great food.

I asked for Russian Broth, bread stick and butter and then finished with a Chicken Stroganoff. The Stroganoff was deliciously creamy and buttery....with an excellent white sauce....chickens and mushrooms were tender; the onions were just rightly cooked and served with some nicely boiled vegetable and meshed potato.

Being a "bong" and eating out "Conti" for ages in Park Street restaurants in Kolkata, I think I deserve the right to rate it at par with one of those great eateries of Kolkata.

Damage is Rs.500/ for the above...

1148, Behind Scindia House, Connaught Place, Delhi

Good

Good food at Scindia House

The place is named Shan-E-Dilli. A dhaba behind the Scindia House. You need to take the lane that is going inside the Scindia House. The Mutton Curry is amazing for Rs.70. Tawa Roti's are too good. The food is so good that some common item gets over even by 9.15 in the evening.

Not a great place for familly dining. May be you can ask for take away...

One Star deducted for the ambiance.

M-22/1, Connaught Place, Delhi

Average

VFM lunch at CP

This is a small eating joint in M block...just pass the Pizza Hut, it's there....tried Chicken Curry with Rice....Damage is Rs.70.

Chicken is cooked well, rice is not Basmati, little redish in color and medium sized grain. But definitely a VFM option at CP.

E-15, Inner Circle, Connaught Circus, Connaught Place, Delhi

Excellent

Pay in INR for a London ambiance

I was supposed to treat my colleague Devashish and Bhumika over a lunch. Since we are located in CP, the choice was to go somewhere here only. They had the opportunity to choose the place, but they were undecided. So I took them to UCH, and they agreed it was just the right choice.

Connaught Place, probably the first organized shopping mall in India continuing till date with its grandeur. With it, some of those establishments that served the British Clientele are still in business. For restaurants, one of them is UCH. Undoubtedly UCH it doing their business with all it’s glory.

The main wooden door with frosted glass is the only distance between Connaught place and getting into an old world charm just picked from Piccadilly Square. Once you get in....you get the glimpse of that jaw dropping interior made in the "Art Deco" style. The hand curved wooden chairs will definitely remind you of some of the London Restaurants.

UCH serves equally good food to their decor. Not that costly...three of us....veg dishes....Daal Makahi, Sabzi Jhaalfreeze and Paneer Butter Masala...butter nun and some rice.... it was about Rs.1000/. I didn't try their Conti dishes considering my guest's choice.

Best thing is you pay in Indian Rupees only to experience a London ambiance!! Surely a Five Starrer!!
