14, Sardar Patel Road, Tharamani, Chennai

Good

cheap and good

This is one of the oldest and still running chinese restaurant in Chennai. Well, it looks and feels like it.

The food was good, but they could have taken more care in preparing chicken dishes. The experience all together was a little mixed though. The restaurant should take more care in its cleaniliness etc. The waiter were dressed in clothes which were probably cleaned once a week or less. The glasses for drinking water were cleaned, but they were not dried and had water drops inside and outside. The people were friendly and helpful, specially the parking attendant outside. I only wish they had take more care. But, i guess, considering they dont charge a lot of money for decent food, they are probably just about managing on the numbers side.

133, 134, Peters Road, Near Satyam Cinemas, Gopalapuram, Chennai

Excellent

ithu thaan dosa/chutney

...
The only problem, i have, if any, is what to choose. I am at HSB, for their dosas, idlies, poori, and the likes. So, back to the choice, amongst this long list of south-indian stuff. Its always a tough choice, and i end up with some kind of dosa or dosai. Rava, Masala, Butter or some newer variant. If it is not Rava Dosai, then my instruction will include, soft dosai, not crisp like pappad.....

HSB has started speciality restaurants, and the one i am writing about specifically here is the one on Peters Road, Royapettah, called Swathi. Small place, but it can easily crowded..... With all the restaurants in the city, a lot of them seem to want to wander here......

90, Elliots beach road, Besant Nagar, Chennai

Average

Just about....

Well, its a food court. So what do you expect:
- a collection of good food
- a decent dining experience
- freedom to walk about and choose from different outlets

Well, what do you get
- a collection of good food, but not prepared with that intent
- very average dining experience - A/c doesnt work or they have a half-ton a/c for a place that needs 20 !!
- a bunch of hosts from different counters bothering you with their menu and choices

I go there... when we are the beach and need sudden urge for food. The last was about 18 months back !!

#1 Kasturi Estate, 1st Street, Poes Garden, Alwarpet, Chennai

Good

nice payasam...

They serve a good payasam. Well, you can make that home, if you are a mallu. But if you are not, and you crave for it, this is a place to go. Also carry your mastercard, cause the bill falls in the priceless category.
I mean.... expensive.

I remember the appam and stew (or ishtu), the fish fry and the payasam. But then again, nothing was monumental to think about returning soon. It would be nice for a grand occasion, where you need a nice ambiance and are willing to spend the money.
