No 7 Ground Floor, Asha Manor Complex, 3rd Avenue, Anna Nagar, Chennai

Excellent

The same great food, without the crowds

Eden Anna Nagar came as a pleasant surprise. I had always believed that the incredibly popular Besant Nagar version was a one-off miracle, a lucky combination of a great chef/kitchen staff and killer location. I would never imagined that Eden, the ever crowded, no-reservations, miniature cubby-hole could successfully pull of a branch effort, especially with their long-time "Only at Besant Nagar" status.

But hey, they have done it. The Anna Nagar avatar is larger, serves the same great veggie food and importantly does not force you to wait 45 minutes for a seat on any day after 7 pm like the Besant Nagar one.

Hotel Quality Inn Aruna, 5th Floor, 144/145 Sterling Road, Nungambakkam, Chennai

Good

Fantastic Frontier Food

The North West Frontier province always manages to evoke images of battle-hardened Pathans, Pashtuns and Baluchis riding camels and horses and generally indulging in community eating - a roast camel and pilaf perhaps.
While Sigree does not serve roast ships of the desert, it still serves some excellent kebabs and pilafs. The only reason I give it 4/5 is the horrendous parking system Quality Inn Aruna has.

Good

Keera Vadai Heaven

Yes it's dingy. Yes it's messy. And yes, the dosas at Saravana Bhavan are crispier, but the Keerai (Spinach) Vadais here taste like they were cooked by Nala himself. Awesome. Not available at all times though.

E-147/A, 2nd Avenue, Near Besant Nagar Bus Stand, Besant Nagar, Chennai

Excellent

Ameri Khaana

Don't miss this place. Extremely affordable and great food. For a change, they have a single page menu of the just the right size, unlike a few other multi-cuisine types where the menu is about the size of the Brittannica. Don't miss the Corn-Coriander soup - delectable. They also have real feta cheese in their Greek salads, which is a huge improvement over some of the places Ive tried Greek Salads. The best excuse Ive heard so far - "Sir. the cheese melted with the cabbage".

Americana is strangely uncrowded though. It's a small place and I am not sure they can survive sparse crowds for too long. So show them the love, and go hog their burgers, sandwiches and bakes.

74, Cathedral Road, Gopalapuram, Chennai

Good

Not easy on the wallet

The food is pretty tasty but pretty hard on the wallet. Try the Dum Biriyanis - awesome.
