They sure weren't kidding about the "laboratory" bit. The dark chocolate milkshake that I ordered came in a beaker and I felt a little underdressed (I was not wearing a lab coat) drinking from it. But the milkshake itself was more than excellent. A good milkshake should laugh and smirk in the face of cholesterol and this one did a good impression of Mogambo in the health department. The place itself is rather tiny and cannot accommodate more than a couple of Yuvraj Singhs but the overall atmosphere is pretty good.

I also had the Hummus and I must say, it took me to the streets of the West

Among the few things that move me to poetry is an unlimited platter of kebabs, and the kebab platter at Cafe Ashvita will likely move me to the point where the Burrp database field for the "Review" column is likely to protest, so I will spare you all. But if you are really hungry and want to take no chances, Ashvita is the place. Go for any of the platters and there's enough variety (and unlimited quantity) to fill your heart, mind and of course, the stomach.

I am also a connoisseur of good mint chutney, and Tandoori without mint chutney is like Amsterdam without the Van Gogh museum.

If a freak space time warp (perhaps as a result of some diabolical experiment at the LHC) transposed a part of Italy to the neighbourhood of Nungambakkam and along with it a bunch of clearly peeved Italians who would find themselves suddenly encountering nasty auto drivers and maddening traffic, they would like find some place in chennai that offers them solace, peace and pleasant reminders of home. And good Italian food, because people from that part of the world take their food seriously (seriously enough to start a "Slow food" movement to counter the American "Fast food" juggernaut). Now, where... read more

I always like places that let me have a meal that comprises
    1. Pani Poori
    2. French Fries
    3. Lasagna
    4. Chole Bhature
    5. Ice-cream
And such an eclectic mix is possible only at a place like Shree Mithai, where dinner personalization is taken to its logical extreme. The next time I go there, I am going to insist on pasta inside Pani Poori, and I'm sure they will oblige.

Nice food (although only vegetarian), and a truly varied, self-service menu. The sort of place one can visit many times and eat something radically different every time.
