    Tuscana Pizzaeria , Nungambakkam  |  17 reviews

If a freak space time warp (perhaps as a result of some diabolical experiment at the LHC) transposed a part of Italy to the neighbourhood of Nungambakkam and along with it a bunch of clearly peeved Italians who would find themselves suddenly encountering nasty auto drivers and maddening traffic, they would like find some place in chennai that offers them solace, peace and pleasant reminders of home. And good Italian food, because people from that part of the world take their food seriously (seriously enough to start a "Slow food" movement to counter the American "Fast food" juggernaut). Now, where... read more

I always like places that let me have a meal that comprises
    1. Pani Poori
    2. French Fries
    3. Lasagna
    4. Chole Bhature
    5. Ice-cream
And such an eclectic mix is possible only at a place like Shree Mithai, where dinner personalization is taken to its logical extreme. The next time I go there, I am going to insist on pasta inside Pani Poori, and I'm sure they will oblige.

Nice food (although only vegetarian), and a truly varied, self-service menu. The sort of place one can visit many times and eat something radically different every time.

  • I totally sport this place

    Icarus , Egmore  |  2 reviews

Despite the gazillions of "Chettinadu Tandoori Chinese" joints all over town, Chennai has always lacked an authentic Punjabi restaurant, but look no further than the curiously named Icarus (Punjabi restaurant and Bhangra school to boot). The food is spectacular. The butter chicken will take you to the mustard fields outside Patiala and the strains of Bhangra will start to play inside your ears magically as you bite into it. The decor can best be described as "strategically dark to hide general dinginess" but authentic home-cooked food and haute decor seldom go together.

My first introduction to Mediterranean cuisine was a Palestinian grocery shop in San Antonio, Texas, and since then I have craved for Hummus, Shawarma, Tabbouleh and Feta cheese even in my dreams. And Azulia does not disappoint. They clearly serve the best Meditterranean food in Chennai, and if you are a wino, they have an expansive wine list as well. The starters are the main attraction. Do not miss the chef's specialty sausages. If you have vegetarian friends, take them there, try those sausages and gloat to them about why they are missing something profound in life.

    The main courses
