'ma, let's go to gg's for dinner,' my daughter said. seeing it was a rare homework-free evening, i grabbed my kids and drove out. on the way i remembered reading something about a new tex-mex place, and by popular vote, we drove past galloping gooseberrys and to texas fiesta instead - i wish we hadn't!
parking - there's no designated parking.
ambience - you've got to climb up a flight of stairs carpeted in an ancient, and quite grotty red felt, to get there. the interiors can at best be described as garish. there's even a faux-bar with lights that change from green to blue to... read more -

'maa, there's a japanese food festival on at the pergola, let's go' my daughter said, so we went.
first time, and definitely the last time i visit pergola. here's what happened.
we arrived 10.20pm
a menu was handed to us 10.25pm. daughter ordered the 8 course japanese meal. i asked for the a la carte menu.
we waited for the menu till 10.50pm.
during this time, we heard at least 3 other diners (and only 5 tables, including ours, were occupied, so you work out the percentages!) complain about waiting time of anything between 20 and 30 minutes... read more -

when my friends suggested meeting for a light lunch, latitute 13 by the park seemed the perfect place. reports from people who had visited were all very complimentary, and we could indulge in some retail therapy at the good earth store if the food didn't meet expectations.
ambience - the place is tiny - a handful of tables quite close together in the tent, and a couple more in the room next door. it is very tastefully done though, a lovely blend of something out of an ultra chic design magazine, yet warm and welcoming.

when i heard sandesh was planning to shut down sinful something, i was horrified! no more melt in the mouth blueberry cheese cake? no more tiramisu to die for? and all of this was just a minute's drive away from home too.
mercy came in the form of information that he was going to shift base to karma cafe, still just a minute's drive away from home.
so, we (my son and i) went over to karma cafe to 'check out the place' as soon as it opened.

south indian food is not something i often choose to eat when i'm dining out, after all there's pretty decent southie food dished out at home on a daily basis!
on the days i do go out looking for it, it's either because i want to be pampered while enjoying the best food in the world (southern spice is the place for this) or because i want the worlds best masala crab (then it's straight to karaikudi) or i have a foreign visitor i want to treat to a gourmet tour of the south. then its dakshin, every single time.
